Compared to some of the other forts in the area, this seems to have been a more well developed fortification. While there are few ruins to be seen, the grouns of this round hilltop have not been developed over so it makes a worthwhile visit along with Odaka Castle and Washizu Fort.

History

Marune Fort was one of several forts built around Odaka Castle to contain the Imagawa. In particular it blocks the road to Kutsukake Castle. Matsudaira Motoyasu (Tokugawa Ieyasu) defeated Marune Fort and Washizu Fort with overwhelming forces at the Battle of Okehazama. Some people say Motoyasu first came to prominence as a battle tactician because of this battle.

Field Notes

Compared to some of the other forts in the area, this seems to have been a more well developed fortification. While there are few ruins to be seen, the grouns of this round hilltop have not been developed over so it makes a worthwhile visit along with Odaka Castle and Washizu Fort.
