I stopped by the site of Motohori-yakata as part of my walking tour of former fortification sites in suburban Nagano. Although no ruins remain of this fortified manor house, a signpost can be found in a small garden in the middle of a suburban development area. It is next to a "grave for ancestors".
History
The Motohori-yakata was the medieval fortified manor house of the Motohori Clan, who were vassals of the lords of Wakatsukijō to the northwest. The Wakatsuki were defeated by the Murakami in the early 16th century and forced to flee south to their allies at Aoyagijō. The Motohori were defeated at this time.
Field Notes
I stopped by the site of Motohori-yakata as part of my walking tour of former fortification sites in suburban Nagano. Although no ruins remain of this fortified manor house, a signpost can be found in a small garden in the middle of a suburban development area. It is next to a "grave for ancestors".
