The Kashiwabara-goten is interesting because it was established by tradition following Tokugawa Ieyasu coming here for safe haven in 1588 when he was given shelter at the Nishimura Residence. Tokugawa Shoguns then made it a custom to pause here when visiting the Imperial Capital, and Tokugawa Hidetada established Kashiwabara-goten in 1623 shortly before his retirement. It had a regiment to protect it at all times, but never saw any type of conflict.
