History
Kokuryōjō was built by Kokuryō Munehisa in around 1560. Kokuryō Munehisa was a vassal of the Rokkaku Clan and fought with them against the forces of Oda Nobunaga. In the Edo period Kokuryō Nobuhisa, Munehisa's second son, became a hatamoto (direct retainer of the Tokugawa Shogunate), possessing 580 koku worth of land in Kōka. Kokuryōjō was likely already abandoned by this time.
