I went by Ōedajō going between Yanagawajō and Kaneyamajō. From the bridge over the Abukuma River one can see clearly the shape of the castle worked into the hillside.
History
Thought to have been established by the third son of Date Munetō, Date Muneyuki, who lived in Ōeda village and adopted that name, Ōeda Castle was ruled by the Ōeda Clan until 1591 when they relocated following the shifting fortunes of their Date clan overlords. The Ōeda did briefly return to Ōedajō at the end of the Sengoku Period as the Date used it as a stronghold from which to attack the Uesugi forces stationed at Yanagawajō, but moved to Sakamotojō after the Battle of Sekigahara, whereupon Oedajō was permanently abandoned.
