History

Isobejō was the fortified residence of Marune Iekatsu, the son of Matsudaira Nobumitsu, around 1502. The castle was also known as Marunejō after the clan that occupied it. Isobejō was situated strategically overlooking the point where the Aoki River feeds into the Yahagi River.

Field Notes

Isobejō is a site in the Kamisato neighbourhood of Okazaki City. The area is surrounded by high embankments which brace the Yahagi River. No ruins of the castle remain, and the site is now a small park and a school, with the area being heavily developed over with housing; a few errant rice paddies remain. I cycled along the top of the river embankments from Okazaki Castle to reach this site, which made for a pleasant ride.
