History
Dojō was built by Amano Nagahiro in the 1440s. Tōshōji, the clan temple, was constructed on-site in 1472. The castle was likely abandoned in 1487 when Amano Kagetaka was defeated at Asōkojō to the northeast.
Field Notes
Dojō is a hillside fortification ruin in Kajino Township, Okazaki Municipality. Ruins on-site today are the remains of the Amano Clan bodaiji (clan temple), Tōshōji, and these include stone walls, a well, and a cenotaph dedicated to castle-founder Amano Nagahiro. There appear to be earthworks around the site.
Much of the hillside here is terraced, and there are many old stone-piled retaining walls. The cenotaph and temple ruins can be found adjacent to a deep creek. Beneath here is an old, abandoned cottage. I spent much longer than anticipated navigating the hillside and finding the temple ruins, but it was fun to inspect all of the old terraced fields, now mostly used as cedar plantations, and stone walls.
