Tashiro Yashiki

Tashiro-yashiki is a medieval fortified residence site in Myōken Township, Okazaki Municipality. No ruins remain and the site is now fields, a lumber yard, and a forestry association meeting hall.

History

Tashiro-yashiki was built as the residence of an Okudaira clansman. One landholder was called Katsuyoshi or Katsukichi. Tashiro-yashiki may have functioned as a kyokan (living area) for Takiyamajō on the mountain above. The yashiki would've been near the frontline of the fighting during the battle of Takiyama in which Okudaira and Matsudaira forces under the command of Okudaira Sadayoshi defeated Takeda forces in 1573. Okudaira Sadakatsu, who was Sadayoshi's father but had supported the Takeda side, evacuated to Kai after the battle of Nagashino in 1575, and was forced into retirement following the death of Takeda Katsuyori in 1582. Presumably pardoned by his son, he retired to the Tashiro-yashiki, living there until his death in 1595.
