This is the bridge from the Denchichibu Bailey to the Umadashi gate connected to it. An Umadashi gate is usually a half circle or square around a castle entrance or gate. It helps to conceal the gate and any defenders as well as to ease the transfer of people through. This square style of umadashi is common on Hojo castles and there were many examples at Hachigata Castle too.
