This drum tower located at Rengeji, a temple in the Tamagaki area of Suzuka Municipality, was originally used at Kanbe Castle. The taiko-yagura (drum turret) was located in the castle's second bailey, but was relocated to Rengenji following the castle's decommission in the early Meiji period. The drum tower has dark wood panelling on its ground floor, and open lattices on its upper floor. The yagura is topped by an impressive roof with shachihoko (tiger-headed fish gargoyles), so that we know it was a castle building. | |||
