Set atop a hill on Iki island, this is best accessed by car. Views across the bay are impressive, but the info on the castle and its grounds is woefully lacking. A single board in the car park in Japanese, and nothing of note in English. A real shame.

History

A very short-lived castle in its time; 8 years.

Hideyoshi Toyotomi ordered Bunroku and Keicho to build a castle that would serve as a logistics base at Iki and Tsushima , a route from Nagoya Castle to Chosun in the role of Honjin. It was built in a very short period of about four months from the summer of 1591 (Tensho 19) and was used through the role of Bunroku and Keicho .

The building was demolished after Hideyoshi died in 1598 and retired from Korea. At present, the stone walls and the foundation stones of the Honmaru ruins are left at the summit of Shiroyama overlooking Katsumoto Port, and are maintained as Shiroyama Park. Shiroyama Inari Shrine is enshrined in the park, and Katsumoto Port, Wakamiyajima , Tatsunoshima and Nakarasujima can be seen from the site of Katsumoto Elementary School.
