History
Takano-yakata was built as a fortified manor house by Lady Onabe for her son, Oda Nobukichi, after Toyotomi Hideyoshi had granted them a small feifdom encompassing villages in Kanzaki and Inugami districts. Excavations have confirmed that the fortification had a bailey of around 80m by 60m.The site was subsequently developed for agriculture.
Field Notes
Takano-yakata is an interesting site. Dropping beneath a series of terraced fields, one will suddenly come across a long stretch of ishigaki (stone-piled ramparts), including the foundations of a gate complex. This latter day Sengoku Period fortified residence is a rare example of this type of fortification where significant ruins remain.
