History

Higuchijō was a branch castle of Kadonejō between a confluence of waterways. Higuchijō belonged to the Higuchi Clan. The Higuchi Clan served the Hori Clan and, in turn, the Asai Clan. Higuchi Naofusa, a well-respected retainer knowledgeable in military strategy, raised Hori Hidemura after his father, Hori Motozumi, died. The Higuchi Clan had helped Hori Hidemura’s grandfather, Hori Yorisada, defend nearby Kadonejō during a siege.
