History

Shōrakujijō was constructed in 1368 to protect the Kōra Manor which belonged to Kyōgoku Dōyo from the Rokkaku Clan's advances. Takatsuki clansmen made up the garrison. Kyōgoku Dōyo, known as the 'basara daimyō', had a residence just beneath the castle called the Kamiai-yashiki. The residence was built first, in 1340. Shōrakuji, the temple, was founded by Kyōgoku Dōyo in 1341. Lord Dōyo died in 1373.
