The Morimoto Family moved here in 1861, but the house itself has been around since the 1700's and 15 generation have lived here. During the Edo Period the Morimoto served as something like a secretary, traveling with the lord to and from Tokyo on sankin koutai. The Morimoto were well educated and served as teachers too. The home also featured a well known garden.
