History
Originally Jōkōin was the residence of the Mochiźuki Clan and the kyokan (living area) for Mochiźukijō. Jōkōin-yakata is named for the temple. Jōkōin was established as the clan’s ancestral temple in 1475. The temple venerates the Mochiźuki family to this day, its objects of veneration dating to the Muromachi period when the Mochiźuki rebuilt their castle here.
