History
The ruins of Ôikemurayamajō are located in Yamagata-mura in Higashi-Chikuma-gun. Yamagata-mura is a village municipality made up of three villages which have existed from long before: Ôike, Osaka, and Takeda. Each of these villages had a corresponding castle, with Ôike's being the highest up. Given the elevation of the site and its small size, it is my guess that this fort was used principally as a look-out, commanding vast views of much of the plain. Its remoteness would make it easy to defend but of little value, except it is also next to Jigenzan-Kiyomizudera, an important local temple.
Field Notes
There was very little to see of ruins at this site, Ôikemurayamajō. I identified the main bailey with a deformed lip at the rear which would've been a dorui, and is now sited with a hokora (mini-shrine), and beyond that a trench, now overgrown with young bamboo. It's possible that sub-baileys existed where a mountain road now runs.
