Description Gate to the Hamarikyu Gardens. A large Watariyagura Style gate once stood here. The site of the Hamarikyu Gardens is one of the original Edo land reclamation projects that filled in part of the sea to make land. It provided a palace for the lord of Kofu but was eventually absorbed by the Tokugawa. It housed a palace and gardens but was also intended as a detached fortification for the castle.
