History
In 1600, Suzuki Shigetsugu was granted a small sub-fief in this area valued at 500 koku, and established Norisada-jin'ya, which replaced his castle, Norisadajō, which was abandoned in 1590. The value of the fief was later raised to 1,000 koku. The Norisada-Suzuki Clan continued to rule here until the Meiji period.
Field Notes
Norisada-jin'ya is a hillside jin'ya site in Norisada Township, Toyota Municipality. Ruins remain in the form of ishigaki (stone walls), but the site of the jin'ya is now a school and surrounded by housing between it and the road, and so I could only glimpse the ishigaki. I had to venture down a very narrow path between homes to see the tallest corner segment of it. There is a causeway ramp with stone-piled retaining walls along the approach to the school.
The ishigaki may be mostly around the southwestern sides, whereas the front-facing embankment looks like earthworks for the jin'ya. There is also a terraced space above the school, the school's playground, indicating that Norisada-jin'ya had multiple baileys terracing the hillside. Norisada-jin'ya is the Edo period successor to the sengoku period Norisadajō.
