No ruins remain of the Bizen-date, a fortified manor hall site which predated the much more notable Maruokajō, and the site is now fields and a shrine. I swung by here because it was so close to Maruoka Castle.
History
Bizen-date (Dewa Province) was constructed by the Oshikiri Clan in the 15th century. The Oshikiri were vassals of the Daihōji Clan. Bizen- date, whose lord held the honourific title ‘Protector of Bizen (Province)’, predated nearby Dewa-Maruokajō, and was abandoned in 1513 when the Oshikiri relocated to Dewa-Yokoyamajō.
See also Maruoka Castle (Dewa).
