History
Chikusa Tadāki built Zenrinjijō on the plain during the Nanbokuchō period, and Chikusa Akitsune built a more defensible fort at higher elevation called Chikusajō in 1381. In 1555, Rokkaku forces invade Ise Province from Ōmi Province, and took over Chikusajō, using it as a base from which to attack the rest of Ise. In 1568, Oda forces took over the castle as part of their conquest of Ise. Chikusajō was abandoned in 1615 when its last lord was killed at the summer siege of Ôsakajō.
