This will easily rate as one of my favorite samurai residences to date. It sits in an idyllic location away from the hustle and bustle of Hagi at the point where the Aibagawa River is diverted off the main Matsumoto River to supply fresh water to the samurai town. The house has water that flows naturally flows from the river through the garden and back out to the river again. There are also 2 unique washing basins built right into the river too. One inside the house kitchen area and one inside the bathhouse. The extant nagayamon sits along the riverside with a stone bridge across the river. This picturesque scene is common to home along the Aibagawa including the former Katsura Taro residence next to this. Parts of the house were rebuilt in the Meiji Period.

The residence was donated to the city in 1993 by the grandson of the last samurai to inhabit the house. It was restored and designated a City Historic Site.
