Nagahamajō: Relocated Palatial Annex Remnant (Hikone, Shiga) 長浜城付属御殿・宗安寺本堂 [滋賀県彦根市]
Sōanji is a temple in downtown Hikone with a long history as part of Hikone's castle-town, with cenotaphs to notable samurai and various gruesome legends of the kind that one often finds in castletowns. The temple's main hall is said to have been relocated from Nagahama Castle's palatial annex in 1702 following a large fire that had ravaged Hikone the year before.
Nagahama Castle's palatial annex would've been built by Naitō Nobunari soon after he became lord of the castle in 1600. In 1615 the castle was decommissioned. Maybe the palatial halls were still used after that time then. Since structures from Nagahamajō were relocated to Hikonejō, was this hall not then also moved to Hikonejō first before being donated to the temple? Regardless, if this is truly original architecture from Nagahama Castle then it is an incredible treasure.
The same temple also has a relocated gate from Sawayamajō -- it is said.
