History

This was the home castle of the Okami Clan, a minor local lord from the 1300's until the end of the Sengoku Period. Very little is known about the history of the castle, but it was abandoned after the Siege of Odawara in 1590.

Field Notes

Okami Castle is not easy to get to. I actually biked here from Ushiku Station. The road into the castle site itself is not well marked either. I found it useful to check Google street view before going. Also, there are some other minor related ruins (West Palace and South Palace) nearby but I was not aware of them for this visit.
