History

Aokijō was part of a localised network of forts built by the Taki Clan, which include Takikitajō, Takiminamijō, and Umegakijō. Aokijō was spead between two hillsides, the east castle and west castle, with residential areas inbetween potentially. Interestingly there is an old thatched roof house on either side of the road today, one in the west, one in the east.

Field Notes

Aokijō was a small twin fort with a flatland portion surrounded by what looks like could've been a moat. If that's the case then likely the main residence was behind the moat and the fortified slope behind it was used as a place of retreat in times of conflict. It was getting late and I didn't have a clue about how to go about it, and so I didn't go up the mountains.
