Ohtsuma Yakata

At the site of Ôtsuma-yakata stands a large memorial stone. I found no ruins. The site today is agicultural land. Yakata refers to medieval fortified residences of the land-owning warrior elite of that time. This was the second stop on my "Yakata Tour".

History

Ôtsuma-yakata is thought to have been built by the Ôtsuma Clan in medieval times as their fortified manor residence. The clan was originally a vassal clan of the Suwa Clan, and was allied with the Nishina Clan during the Jōkyū War.
