History
Taguchijō was constructed in the 14th century, most likely by the Nakane Clan, and it is thought to have been a branch castle of Hakoyanagijō. In 1415 the lord of the castle was Nakane Shichikurō. He placed the Nakane Clan under the Matsudaira Clan, serving Matsudaira Chikauji as a vassal. In 1468, Matsudaira Nobumitsu had his eighth son, Nomura Tomomitsu, enter Taguchijō. Tomomitsu founded the Taguchi-Nomura Clan.

Taguchijō is a fortified residence site in Taguchi Township. The locality is now called Oyashiki, presumably after Taguchijō. No definitive ruins remain as the site has been long farmed over and is full of terraced rice paddies. The main area of the fort is presumed to have been a wooded hillock where there is now a private residence. Access is limited. The terrain steepens here between two small hills. I went to the top of one hill which wasn't surrounded by homes or farms, but the peak wasn't flattened; bonus: I did find many mushrooms here. At the bottom of this secondary hill I found a depression which looked somewhat like a dropping moat, though it was hard to tell with all of the grass, and it could've also have been just a creek which 'land improvement' blocked and caused to dry up. Some bloggers have shown pictures of embankments which look like dorui, but it seems to be these are just the result of farmers shoring up rice paddies. One such rice paddy has been abandoned within the last decade, and is now weed-infested. Here I found a snake quite big for the usual brown variety. To sum up Taguchijō: the terrain is suggestive, that is all.
