History

Nagakutejō has its origins in an early 15th century medieval residence belonging to Sakon Ietada. In the early 16th century the castle was controlled by the Saitō Clan, but it was abandoned for a time. In the middle 16th century Katō Tadakage rebuilt the castle and used it as his residence.

Nagakutejō was destroyed by Toyotomi-alligned forces during the famous battle of Nagakute in 1584, and Katō Tadakage, its lord, was killed by Ikeda Tsuneoki's men. Tadakage had served Tokugawa Ieyasu and helped Niwa Ujishige at Iwasaki Castle.
