History
Shimada-jin'ya was established in 1600 under hatamoto (shogunal deputy) Sone Genzō. Subsequent deputies in the early 17th century included Andō Yahē, Hikosaka Mitsumasa, and Nakagawa Kansuke. In 1625 the domain, valued at 2,000 koku and centred around the village of Nodaichiba, became that of Shimada Narishige. The jin'ya, thereafter named for the Shimada, belonged to the clan until 1868 and the abolition of feudalism.

There is a small explanatory board next to a field, and what appears to be an old earthen wall banked up beside the road. I did not know where to look for them, but there also reports of remaining stone walls to the south of the site, perhaps now buried, and a small relocated gate at a nearby temple (Issokuji?).
