History

Hori-shi-yakata was the kyokan (residential annex) for Kamahajō. It is not to be confused with the nearby yashiki (fortified residence) site called Doi-Tono-yashiki.

Field Notes

Hori-shi-yakata is a yakata (fortified manor hall) site in Banba Township, Maibara Municipality. No clear ruins remain above ground. Since I also visited Banbajō I explored the flat terrain directly beneath it, finding old walls for fields now swallowed by bamboo groves. Where any of these stones re-purposed from the yakata? How about these terraces? I have insufficient data to make a conclusion. The Meishin Expressway also runs through the site and likely buried the yakata's remains. This area and portions of Banba village were the residence site.
