History

Koshimizu Castle (越水城) was built in 1516 by Kawarabayashi Masayori as a hilltop fortification. The castle guarded the West Country Road and changed hands multiple times during conflicts between the Hosokawa factions. It later served as the base of Miyoshi Nagayoshi during his expansion in the Kansai region. After Oda Nobunaga’s forces entered the area, the castle lost its strategic value and was abandoned. Today, the site is occupied by Taisha Elementary School, with a stone monument marking the location.
