History

Netsu-jin'ya was established by Matsudaira Tadatoshi in 1624. Tadatoshi was the eldest son of Matsudaira Tadayoshi, lord of -Ohgaki Castle, but he was also a bastard, and so he did not inherit Ohgaki Domain (50,000 koku). Instead he received a much smaller fief in Shinano valued at 5,000 koku (3,000 koku in Chiisagata County (inc. Netsu) and 2,000 in Saku County), founding the Netsu-Matsudaira Clan who ruled until the abolition of feudalism.

Field Notes

Netsu-jin'ya is a hatamoto jin'ya site in Netsu Township, Tōmi Municipality. There is an extant gate said to be from the time of the jin'ya, now serving at a private residence; it is designated as municipal cultural property. Some of the stone-piled retaining walls may also be part of the jin'ya structure, as the layout of the property is generally the same as in the 19th century, but the buildings have all been rebuilt since then bar the gate. Some other artefacts may remain, such as a stone bridge, but these are on private property. The jin'ya also once possessed a moat in front of the gate, but this appears to have been re-filled.
