| Description | This gate was originally the gate from a samurai residence at Tsuwano Castle. It was moved to the Hamada Prefectural offices, along with part of the original residence, when the Hamada Prefecture was established in 1870. Hamada Pref was merged with Shimane Pref in 1876 but the gate remained guarding the local government offices. It was moved here in 1967. While the gate is historically important and adds atmosphere to Hamada Castle no gate actually existed on the site where it stands now. |
