History

Hadanashijō was constructed in 1305 by the Ao Clan who were granted a fief in the area by the Ashikaga Shogunate. In 1556 the Okudaira Clan, vassals of the Oda Clan, attacked Hadanashijō but were repelled. Ao Naganobu was the castellan at that time.

In 1560, following the battle of Okehazama, the Matsudaira Clan became hegemonic in Mikawa, and Ao Naganobu, who was not friendly to them, was forced to retire, being replaced by his heir, Ao Nobumori.

During the Mikawa Ikkō-Ikki rebellion of 1563-1564, Ao Nobumori relocated to Mutsunajō, and the Sakai Clan took over Hadanashijō. The castle is thought to have been abandoned not long after.
