Field Notes
Hiraojō is a gakejiro (clifftop fort) type hiryamajiro (hill-and-plains castle) ruin in Hirao Township, Yokkaichi Municipality (some castle-bloggers have categorised this a flatland castle, but there is notable elevation which was integral to the fort's defence, even if it is only up to 7m high). Ruins include dorui (earthen ramparts), trenches and baileys. The main bailey, or at least an outer bailey, has actually been cut through by a descending road, and continues on the otherside of said thoroughfare where there is more dorui in a bamboo copse. There is a narrow sub-bailey on the main bailey's north with a berm and trench. It seems there were multiple layers of dorui.
