History

Hosokawashiroyamajō is thought to have been constructed by Matsudaira Nobunori who established the Hosokawa-Matsudaira Clan. In the early 16th century the clan was incorporated into the vassalage system of Matsudaira Norimoto, and Hosokawa(shiroyama)jō became a branch castle of Ôgyūjō.

Field Notes

Hosokawashiroyamajō, which I also call Hosokawayamajō, is a hilltop earthworks fortification ruin in Hosokawa Township, Okazaki Municipality. Dorui (earthen ramparts) surround a central bailey area. It looks as though there was an outer bailey on the same hill, with sunken fields to the south perhaps representing a moat system. The site is now fields.
