History
From 1533 Fujisawa Yorichika was based at Fukuyo Castle, which is on a hillside across the Tenryū River from Tanakajō, but he was defeated there by Takeda Shingen in 1545. Initially banished from Ina, Fujisawa was allowed to return in 1560, whereupon he built Tanakajō as his residence. In 1582, with the fall of the Takeda Clan, Fujisawa tried to recapture his old territory, beginning with the successful capture of Fukuyojō. However, Hoshina Masanao, a vassal of Tokugawa Ieyasu, captured Takato Castle and mobilised from there against Fujisawa. Fukuyojō fell to Hoshina, and Fujisawa and his son committed seppuku at Tanakajō.
