History
Iwatojō was the fortified manor hall of Amano Tôsada during the 14th century. The Amano Clan ruled Iwato Township for several generations. Dōdo-toride was built on the mountainside above as a fortified redoubt to be used in times of conflict. There is a folkloric tale that the lord of the manor was killed in battle and his wife went up to the mountain to die, becoming a white dragon.

No ruins remain of the kyokan and it is now the site of the village's Shinmeisha shrine. The shrine has some nice stone-piled retaining walls, but these are not related to any fortification. The Dōdo castle-mount can be seen above. A modern highway runs on an viaduct over the valley.
