Kido Castle (Mikawa)
Kidojō is a hirajiro (flatland castle) ruin in Kido Township, Anjō Municipality. Ruins include dorui (earthen ramparts) and karabori (dry moats). I was surprised to find the earthworks so well preserved. The site is now that of a shrine, Kasuga-jinja.
History
In the latter half of the 15th century, Matsudaira Nobumitsu, lord of Iwazujō, expanded his territory westward, conquering lands across the Yahagi River and acquiring Anshōjō in 1476. Nobumitsu put his son, Chikatada, in charge of Anshōjō. Sometime during the subsquent decade Kidojō was built by Naruse Naotsune, a vassal of Chikatada originally from Asuke. It shall be recalled that the Naruse would go on to be lords of Inuyamajō.
