History

Kiriyama Castle was built as the mountaintop redoubt protecting the manor hall of the Kitabatake Clan at the foot of the mountain below. Between Kiriyama Castle and the yakata, but much closer to the latter, there is another small fort site known as the Kitabatakeshi Yakata Tsumenoshiro.
