Komori Castle (Omi)
Unfortunately there is nothing to see of Komorijō, as all ruins of the castle, which was fairly large, were destroyed by housing development relatively recently. The site today is residential with some surrounding fields. Kanda Shrine is located nearby.

History
Komorijō was the fortified residence of the Komori Clan who are thought to have been vassals of the Iba Clan. The Iba Clan, who were once a powerful clan, saw their power wane, and they would later occupy the area, called Kirihara-gō, as deputies of the Hakuta Domain of the Watanabe Clan, using Komorijō as a base to oversee Hakuta Domain (in Izumi Province) enclaves in Ōmi Province. The ruins of Komorijō consisted of earthworks ensconcing several baileys surrounded by karabori (dry moats) which ran 150m north-south by 50m wast-west, but all remains of the castle were destroyed by the suburban expansion of Ōmi-Hachiman between 2008 and 2013. Pictures of the ruins before they were cleared can be found on some castling blogs; it appears the area used to be somewhat forested with bamboo groves.
