Konosumiyama Castle

From Jcastle.info

Brilliant small site with well preserved structure. Unfortunately there is no good transportation out here from downtown Izushi, but it is worth the short taxi ride or rent a bicycle.

History

Konosumiyama Castle was built around 1372-1374 by Yamana Tokiyoshi and became the main base for the Yamana clan. Yamana was one of the most powerful lords in Japan at the time, but Yamana Sozen lost considerable power and lands in the Onin War (1467-1477). When Hideyoshi invaded in 1569, Yamana Suketoyo fled the castle and re-established himself nearby at Mt. Arikoyama. Konosumiyama Castle was abandoned at this time.
