History

Koźuka-jin'ya was a daikan jin'ya (magistrate's compound) lording Heigaki village. The clan in charge were the Matsunaga who served the shogunate as hatamoto (bannermen). A gate and living halls from the jin'ya are extant and have been reloated to Hiromi Park. The archictecture dates to 1857, and was registered as municipal cultural property in 2000.

Field Notes

Koźuka-jin'ya was originally located in the village of Heigaki which has been long since swallowed up by downtown Fuji Municipality. However, the gate and shoin (drawing rooms) of the jin'ya were relocated to Hiromi Park, which has become something of a small architectural park as part of the Fuji Folk History Museum. The park further contains relocated buildings from another jin'ya, that of the Toyo-daikansho, as well as an old farmhouse and a restored pit-home next to a kofun (ancient burial mound). Further, there are several kura (storehouses) throughout the complex, and several Meiji period buildings, the latter displaying combined western and Japanese architectural features typical of that period. All-in-all, Hiromi Park is a great destination for fans of Japanese architecture.

Koźuka-jin'ya has a yakuimon-type gate and residential buildings. The extant halls consist of a shoin (drawing room), genkan (entrance parlour), and jōdannoma with a tokonoma in the bukeyashiki (samurai house) style.
