Minami Hatta Castle

This is not something I would typically go out of my way to visit, but if you are in the area it is worth the quick hike up the hillside behind the highway to get to the castle ruins. I walked here from Habu Castle since I had well over an hour to the next bus and then caught the bus from the Ha

History

The castle history is completely unknown. It is clearly a castle ruin with a leveled main bailey, horikiri and trenches. It seems to be in a good position to watch over the road and the valley below it. The Hatta area saw fierce fighting between Akechi and the Hatano during the Tanba Campaigns so it may have been part of the network of fortifications built by Akechi Mitsuhide or the castle of a local vassal of the Hatano.
