Nagamatsu Castle (Mino)
Nagamatsujō is a former hirajiro (flatland castle) site in Nagamatsu Township, Ôgaki Municipality. No ruins remain, and the site is now a school. I came across this site, proclaimed by a large stele, by complete chance on the way to the neighbouring site of Hirabayashi-sō which has a relocated gate
History
Nagamatsujō, built circa 1560, was the residence of Takenaka Shigetoshi. The cousin and liege of Shigetoshi was Takenaka Shigeharu, who gave him the fief which was governed from Nagamatsujō. The Takenaka Clan were based in Iwade, Fuwa County. Bodaiyamajō was their mountain redoubt.
Following the death of Shigeharu, Shigetoshi served Toyotomi Hideyoshi directly and was rewarded with 10,000 koku worth of land in Bungo. When Shigetoshi relocated, Takemitsu Tadamune took over as castellan of Nagamatsujō. Following the battle of Sekiǵahara, Nagamatsujō was abandoned.
Field Notes
Nagamatsujō is a former hirajiro (flatland castle) site in Nagamatsu Township, Ôgaki Municipality. No ruins remain, and the site is now a school. I came across this site, proclaimed by a large stele, by complete chance on the way to the neighbouring site of Hirabayashi-sō which has a relocated gate from Ôgakjō. I suppose this castle visit lasted about five seconds. It is a municipally designated history site.
