History
Ôyama-no-saku is a jōsaku site discovered in 1929. Excavations in Ôyama village unearthed foundation stones, a well, embankments, a section of a moat, and holes for pillars for buildings and a gatehouse, as well as palisades. Recovered treasures included wooden bowls, lacquerware, chopsticks and ceramics. Jōsaku were flatland forts built by the Yamato Kingdom in its conquest of northern Honshū, and were used to subdue the Emishi peoples.
