Field Notes
Ôtoriyama-toride is a yamajiro (hilltop fort) ruin in Odani Township, Nagahama Municipality. Ôtori-toride is a satellite fortification of Nakajimajō, though sits above it on a higher peak. There is a ridge saddle between the two sites. Ôtoriyama-toride is sparsely developed compared to other forts in its group, mostly consisting of a flattened peak which was the main bailey, and some minor terraced baileys to the north, east, south and west.
As one approaches the trail to Nakajima which goes via Ôtoriyama-toride, one will encounter a mock-reconstructed kabukimon gate. Banners are erected and a large signboard is displayed with 'Nakajimajō' written on. The hill directly above here is actually the castle-mount of Ôtoriyama-toride.
