Field Notes
Oiwakehikagejō is a yamajiro (mountaintop castle) site in Inokuchi Township, Toyota Municipality. Not much remains and the ruins have been partially destroyed for the construction of a pylon. A small bailey remains, with the ridges beneath it having traces of horikiri (trenches). The western ridge appears to have a double horikiri system, but it is only small.
The forest road on the south side of the mountain passes directly under this site, and at the point where the ridge and the road merge it takes only a moment to climb from there to the pylon, and then to the castle ruins. Taburijō is on the same mountain but the ridge is difficult to traverse in parts. The old road which goes over the ridge between the two sites is overgrown.
Note: It seems there are several fort sites called 'Hikage' in Kamo County. This site overlooks Asuke-Oiwake. It is not to be confused with Kamiwakihikagejō or Takiwakijō, which is also called 'Hikagejō'.
