Shouda Castle (Mikawa)
The site of Shōdajō in Miai Township, Okazaki Municipality, is now just fields, and no ruins remain. A lone stele stands as evidence of the former fortification. It seems the ruins were once quite substantial, but that they were completely flattened for the accomodation of rice paddies.
History
Shōdajō was a fortified residence of Shōda / Ikuta Shigekatsu during the time of Tokugawa Ieyasu. Other castellans were reportedly Ikuta Rokuzaemon, Ishikawa Matashirō, and Sakai Hikosaburō.
Shōdajō had two masugata(square-shape)-type gate complexes, making it quite formidable as far as single precinct residences go. It may have been used into the Edo period.
