History

Tomokyūjō was the fortified residence of Miyashige Kin'wemon, a samurai who served at Okazakijō during the Sengoku period. The Miyashige Clan were vassals of the Matsudaira Clan, but it is unknown what became of them.

Field Notes

Tomokyūjō is a hillside fortification ruin in Hadanashi Township, Okazaki Municipality. One castle-blogger said there were earthworks remaining at this site, so I wanted to check it out. I ascended the 20m tall mountain prong behind Tomokyū-jinja. The site is now a cedar plantation. The land is flattened and terraced in parts, indicating the remains, perhaps, of a bailey. There is some masonry, but it is probably not medieval in origin - maybe proto-modern. I found no clear indication of defensive berms or trenches, which was a little disappointing.
